A small plane carrying three people crashed in a remote wooded area in Massachusetts on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Police reported multiple deaths.

A twin-engine Beechcraft Baron 55 crashed near Leiden, Massachusetts, with three people on board, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Plane crash in residential area in Massachusetts, three injured

Massachusetts State Police Trooper and Spokesman James D. DeAngelis said multiple agencies were called to the crash at the Leyden Wildlife Management Area near Greenfield around 11:45 a.m. .

Massachusetts State Police Officer James D. DeAngelis said responders found multiple occupants of the plane with fatal injuries.

“During our response, we discovered multiple passengers with life-threatening injuries,” DeAngelis said in a statement.

Police, fire and medical personnel remained at the scene, as did detectives and crime scene personnel, DeAngelis said.

Police said an investigation is ongoing but did not provide further details.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board also said they were investigating the crash.
