Toledo police shot and killed a suspect after authorities say he ran from police following the death of his live-in girlfriend and then pointed a gun at officers multiple times.
Investigators previously interviewed Albert Alderman, 33, after he called 911 just after 6 a.m. Sunday and said Kelsey Barnier, 29, was unresponsive, police said. He announced that he was going. Police initially reported there were no signs of trauma to the body. However, police said the Lucas County medical examiner later concluded Barnier's death was due to strangulation and ruled it a homicide.

Police contacted the alderman, who agreed to meet with them, but then declined to meet with them. Police said SWAT detectives dispatched to the home saw him drive away shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday. Police tried to stop the man, but he ran away and then pulled a handgun out the window and pointed it in the direction of officers, police said. An officer fired into the back window of the alderman's car, police said.
Police in Toledo, Ohio, shot and killed a murder suspect Sunday afternoon after he pointed a gun at him repeatedly.
Police say the man then suddenly stopped his car, got out and pointed a gun at officers. Four police officers then opened fire and the man fell to the ground.
Police said the alderman began to stand up and pointed his gun at the officers again, but the officers continued firing and he fell again, still holding the gun and pointing it at the officers. Police were eventually able to kick the weapon out of the man's hands, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said the officers will be placed on paid leave pending an investigation, and two officers have sought medical attention because they suffered hearing loss during the incident. Officer information, body-worn camera footage and dashcam footage will be released at a later date, officials said.
