Black GOP lawmaker shuts down ‘enraged’ protester calling him ‘racist’ during pro-Trump speech

Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas) called out former President Donald Trump on Monday during a campaign rally in Iowa after an audience member began shouting at him and accusing him of being a “racist.” was mixed with heckler.

The man accused Hunt of “degrading himself” and “turning his back” on black people when he tried to confront him before being restrained by other members of the audience.

The man, who appeared to be African-American like Mr. Hunt, was eventually removed from the room by members of the crowd, prompting applause from the audience.

“I'm from a majority white district in Houston, Texas, and I won by 30 points,” Hunt said after being chased away by protesters. “Because on days like these, you literally find yourself being judged by the content of your character, not the color of your skin.”

Hunt added that when he “enters a room like this,” he doesn't see “the color or creed of a race,” but rather “a fellow American.”

Trump won by a landslide in the Iowa caucuses on Monday night, defeating his closest challenger by nearly 30 points as votes continued to be counted past midnight.
