AI is ‘wildly out of control,’ D.C. resident says, with some citing fears over election interference, job loss

Americans in the nation's capital told Fox News their biggest concerns about artificial intelligence. Some fear that rapidly advancing technology could lead to voter manipulation and job losses during the 2024 election.

“When you have too much control over something like that, you have too much power,” Cori, who lives in Washington, D.C., told Fox News. “I think it got horribly out of control.”

The rapidly growing technology of AI has always raised concerns about its ability to manipulate elections and destroy jobs. The tool is already being used by some 2024 presidential campaigns, including both Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former President Trump.

“I definitely think AI will influence elections as people try to use AI to influence election communications,” Jean said. “I don't know what impact it will have, but I think we're going to see a lot of bias around certain topics.”

What is artificial intelligence (AI)?

In June, the DeSantis campaign posted on social media an AI-generated image depicting a fake photo of Trump hugging Dr. DeSantis, Biden's former chief medical adviser. Anthony Fauci. The former president's campaign also used AI to create a mock video. DeSantis' 2024 Presidential Announcement Guests in attendance include Democratic megadonor George Soros, World Economic Forum Chairman Klaus Schwab, former Vice President Dick Cheney, Adolf Hitler, Satan and the FBI.

“AI is very concerning in the sense that it takes advantage of someone else’s identity,” Steve said. “I think it's going to cause a lot of problems for celebrities and people in the know.”

Cori said she loves using AI in her work, admitting that she “couldn't do my job” without the technology. But she also said that her continued progress raises serious concerns about job security.

“My concern is that people will be excluded from their jobs,” she said. “They won't need us anymore. We'll just become nothing.”

In March 2023, Goldman Sachs predicted that advances in AI could slow or even decline. eliminate 300 million jobs worldwide. The technology received a lot of attention during last year's Hollywood strike, amid concerns that AI could easily write scripts or replicate the image or likeness of actors.

“I think the unknown and uncontrollable nature of AI is a bit of a concern for me,” Miles said. “There are so many things you can't control, and I think that's scary.”

Abu said the difficulty in distinguishing between genuine content and AI-generated content could be “dangerous” and should be controlled by the federal government.

“There have to be certain rules,” Abu said. “It has to be regulated.”
