Google to lay off ‘several hundred’ employees in latest cuts

Google announced in an email to employees Tuesday morning that “hundreds” more people will be laid off in the latest round of layoffs.

In an internal memo, Google's chief business officer Philip Schindler said changes to Google's sales team would result in hundreds of jobs in advertising sales around the world being cut or “put at risk.” ”I admitted that it would happen. He added that employees affected by the layoffs can apply for other open positions across the tech giant's divisions.

“However, unfortunately, we will have to say goodbye to many highly talented and wonderful sales colleagues,” the CBO wrote. “While there is no easy or best way to do this, I have asked designated leaders to personally communicate one-on-one with those affected.”

“While we are confident we are doing the right thing for our customers, partners and ultimately our business, this will be extremely difficult for many, especially for LCS as a whole.” [Large Customer Sales] It’s a team,” Schindler added.

He said dialogue with affected employees would begin in all regions on Wednesday.

The memo is First reported by Business Insider.

“To best serve our advertising customers, we go through a rigorous process to build our team every year,” a Google spokesperson told The Hill in an email Tuesday. “We map customers to the appropriate specialized teams and sales channels to meet their service needs.”

The move comes less than a week after Google announced hundreds of employee layoffs across its virtual assistant, augmented reality, and central engineering teams.

A Google spokesperson also told The Hill last week that the company is “responsibly investing” in the company's “business priorities,” including changes to improve team efficiency and workflow.

A series of technology companies have laid off workers in recent weeks, including Amazon, which laid off hundreds of workers across its streaming and studio operations earlier this month. Amazon's Twitch also cut more than 500 jobs in an effort to return the division to profitability.
