Trump says ‘Jimmy Carter is happy now,’ thanks to Biden

Former President Trump mocked former President Carter in his victory speech at the Iowa caucuses on Monday, appearing to harshly criticize the former president in the wake of his wife's death.

“My wife attended Rosalynn Carter's funeral two months ago. And it was beautiful. Jimmy Carter was there, too,” President Trump said. “I thought Jimmy Carter was happy right now because he was going to go down as a better president compared to Joe Biden.”

Trump has shared similar sentiments before, first using Carter to Criticize President Biden in November And on Sunday, he mentioned Rosalynn Carter.

Carter, 99, who is in hospice care, lost his wife, Rosalyn, in November. Her funeral was attended not only by former President Clinton, but also by all living former first ladies.

Democratic advocacy group American Bridge 21st Century on Tuesday called Trump's comments “cruel.”

“Donald Trump has conducted himself in the same manner throughout his 40 years in public life,” Press Secretary Brandon Weathersbee said in a statement. “He doesn't care who he insults, belittles, or offends, as long as it ultimately gets his way. Neither the dead nor the most decorated American icons.” Nothing is sacred or off-limits to Trump, neither veterans nor the memories of war heroes.”

“This is a guy whose Republican Party just handed over its first state in its primary process and who, barring some natural disaster, will be our next presidential nominee,” he added.
