Miami Dolphins long snapper Blake Ferguson faces criticism over comments made by sports commentator Jemele Hill about the Detroit Lions hiring Dan Campbell as head coach several years ago. He gave his final words on social media.
X's Milwaukee Bucks fan account targeted Hill on Monday after Campbell's Lions won their first playoff game in 32 years. The account took a screenshot of a post in 2021 in which Hill wrote, “These are the people black coaches are missing out on.”

Hill replied: “I'm putting something together because I need more than just a tweet.” She also pointed out that when Campbell was hired, she wrote that no one said he would be a bad coach, but added, “But all the white people you mentioned said that a black coach would be a bad coach. I can't give you a single example where I had an opportunity.”
Mr. Ferguson spoke on Wednesday.
“I think 'I Was Wrong' fits within the 280 character limit,” he wrote to X.

Campbell was an assistant coach with the New Orleans Saints when he joined the Lions. He served as interim head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2015, replacing Joe Philbin in Week 5. At Miami, they were 5-7.

The Lions interviewed Robert Saleh, Eric Bieniemy, Marvin Lewis and Darrell Bevell for the job.
Saleh, David Curry, Mike Tomlin, Ron Rivera and Brian Flores were the minority head coaches during the 2021 season.
The Lions are now two wins away from advancing to the NFC Championship for the first time since 1991 and making their first ever Super Bowl appearance.
