Warriors coach Dejan Milojević dead at 46

Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojevic has died after suffering an emergency during a team dinner in Salt Lake City, the team announced. He was 46 years old.

Milojevic is in his third season on the Warriors' bench and was part of Golden State's coaching staff when they defeated the Boston Celtics to win the NBA championship in 2022.

The team announced that he suffered a “medical emergency at a private team dinner.” The NBA announced that the Warriors-Utah Jazz game scheduled for Wednesday night has been postponed.

“We are completely devastated by Dejan's sudden passing,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said. “This is a shocking and tragic blow to everyone associated with the Warriors, his family, friends and all of us who had the incredible pleasure of working with him. It was an incredibly difficult time. In addition to being a great basketball coach, Dejan was one of those people. He was one of the most positive, beautiful people I've ever known, and with his passion and energy. A man who brought joy and light to every day. We are saddened by his wife Natasa and their children Nicola and Masa. Their loss is extremely sad.” ”

Milojevic coached in Serbia and Montenegro before joining the Warriors.He coached Denver Nuggets superstar center Nikola Jokic before coming to the United States.

Milojevic played in NBA Summer League with the Atlanta Hawks, San Antonio Spurs, and Houston Rockets. He spent his 14 years as a professional basketball player, in the Adriatic League he was awarded MVP three times.

As a head coach abroad, he won the Serbian Cup in 2016, and the Montenegrin League Champion and Montenegrin Cup in 2021.
