Texas Sen. John Cornyn Caves to Lankford Immigration Plot: ‘Unique Leverage’

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) has succumbed to a bipartisan immigration framework that would only reward illegal immigrants and encourage more foreign graduates to take jobs from American graduates.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will visit the White House on Wednesday. The meeting was to discuss support for Ukraine and the possibility of a border agreement.

Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) has been leading Republican negotiations over a possible agreement with Democrats on border policy. However, the proposed deal is currently stalled in the House of Commons after Prime Minister Boris Johnson refused to give the bill any consideration. Instead, Johnson said the House needs to consider House Republican policy.passed it Border Bill, HR 2, Border Security Act.

Senate Republican leaders believe now is the time to pass border legislation and are pushing back on Johnson's claims. Cornyn said Republicans need to leverage the “unique leverage” of Democrats' desire for more aid to Ukraine.

“[We have] Unique leverage with Ukrainian funds. Even if we had a majority in the House, the Senate, and the White House, we still couldn't get 60 votes on some of the things that Sen. Lankford is negotiating right now,” Cornyn said. explained Go to Punch Bowl News.

Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-South Dakota) said, “With a Republican majority in the Senate, it's simply impossible to achieve the kind of border policy we're talking about right now.'' ” he said.

“This is a unique moment. It's a chance to have really conservative borders. [policies] That's something we haven't had for 40 years,” he added.

Breitbart News' Neil Munro reported on how Lankford's immigration proposal has few provisions restricting immigration.

“There's nothing like that there. [restricts immigration]In fact, it just encourages more people to come,” said Chris Chmielenski, president of the Immigrant Accountability Project.

Chmielenski went on to explain the framework in detail.

The border agreement will look like this:

1) Increase the number of green cards by 50,000 per year

2) Work authorization for adult children of H-1B holders.

3) Immediate work permits for all illegal aliens released from detention.

4) Taxpayer-funded lawyers for certain UACs and mentally incompetent aliens

5) Power to ban for a limited number of days if encounters exceed 5,000 per day for 7 days.

6) Restrict parole for those who enter the country without authorization between ports of entry

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) called the deal a “sellout” and argued it “continues to allow illegal immigration.”

They're saying, “Oh, we might let 5,000 people into the country illegally a day, and then try to stop the next 5,000 people that day.'' It's completely sold out.

But that's because people like the senator. [Mitch] McConnell cares more about Ukraine than borders or anything else. He wants to send $60 billion of your money to Ukraine. He is more aligned with Biden on this issue. On the issue of money, sending money to Ukraine and around the world, Mr. McConnell is much closer to aligning himself with Mr. Biden than with Republicans.

a wall street journal poll released Ahead of the Iowa caucuses, it was found that 59 percent of registered Iowa voters believe immigration is the most important issue facing the country.

60% of voters said so believe They said they think immigrants in the U.S. generally do more to harm the country, compared to 46% who think they generally do more to help the country.
