Rep. Nancy Mace’s ex-chief of staff considers primary challenge: report 

South Carolina's former chief of staff, Rep. Nancy Mace, is reportedly considering a preliminary challenge against her former boss.

Dan Hanlon is considering a run against the 46-year-old Republican in Palmetto's 1st Congressional District and is actively engaging with potential donors and potential campaign staff, according to Politico.

“Mr. Hanlon is pleased with how well the idea has been received and how many people are looking for an alternative to Mace, including both the financial community in Washington, D.C., and America's movers and shakers.'' “I'm there” [South Carolina]” said a Republican familiar with Hanlon’s decision-making. told the outlet.

Hanlon worked for the Trump administration's Office of Management and Budget for four years before joining Mace's staff in 2021, but left the South Carolina congressman's office last month.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) mentioned Hanlon shortly after his vote last October to strip him of the speakership. Mr Hanlon is reportedly one of six former Mace staffers who recently left the job.

Mr. Mace, one of eight Republicans who voted to oust the former speaker, was called out by Mr. McCarthy over claims that Mr. McCarthy had not kept his word.

“Then I'll call you [Mace’s] chief of staff [Hanlon] …I said, “I don’t know, can you tell me?” Where did I fail to keep my promise? '' McCarthy told reporters on the day he was removed from the chairmanship. “The chief of staff said, 'You kept your word 100 percent.'

Mr. McCarthy said at a news conference that he would give Mr. Hanlon the job if Mr. Mace fired him.

Hanlon has a March 30 deadline to file to run for South Carolina's 1st District election.

Mace's office did not respond to The Post's request for comment.
