The relationship between former President Donald Trump and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-N.D.) appears to be strengthening, with the former president saying he wants the governor to be a “very important” part of his administration.
According to Breitbart News, some people around Trump are talking about him as a possible running mate or cabinet member.
In his victory speech after the Iowa caucuses on Monday, President Trump spoke highly of Burgum, calling him “one of the best governors in this country” and “a solid person.” President Trump emphasized that Burgum supported him in 2016 and 2020, and declared that he would like to welcome the governor into his administration if he wins in November.
“I hope I can ask him to be a part of my administration, a very important part of my administration,” President Trump said.
Sources told Breitbart News that after the caucuses, Burgum flew with Trump from Iowa to New York in a luxury Boeing 757 nicknamed “Trump Force One.”
Burkum comes from the business world and became governor in 2016 after a successful campaign that he partially funded with his own funds. As Breitbart News previously noted. Mr. Burgum was an early investor in Great Plains Software, where he eventually served as CEO until 2001, when he was sold to Microsoft. He then became head of Microsoft Business Solutions. forum Before report.
During his run for the White House, Mr. Burgum focused intensely on energy policy, and his views on the issue largely align with Mr. Trump's. Indeed, in his endorsement last week, Trump promised that he would unleash America's “energy stranglehold.”

At the first U.S. Energy Security Summit held at the Hamm American Energy Institute in Oklahoma in October, he told Breitbart News that President Joe Biden's energy policy will hurt U.S. energy producers. He said it appeared to be designed to “attack” them.
“There is an aggressive effort by almost every agency in the federal government, led by Biden himself, to claim that there is an attack on American energy,” Burgum told Breitbart News. “It's not just fossil fuels. This is really an attack on all kinds of liquid fuels, and in fact, 'we're going to put liquid fuels out of business' and 'we're going to move the whole world to EVs.' It is. Nothing could be more detrimental to the American economy, national security, and global stability than for the United States to pursue its policies.
Burgum had the support of Sens. Kevin Cramer (R-North Dakota) and John Hoeven (R-North Dakota) for the Republican nomination. Like KUMV, both men immediately endorsed Trump after Burgum withdrew from the race. I got it.. Cramer told Breitbart News by phone on Tuesday that Trump indicated in the summer that he was looking at Burgum as a possible candidate for his cabinet.
“During the campaign, when I endorsed Doug for president, Donald Trump called me about Doug. I don't remember when it was, but I think it was July or August of last year. “I want him to call me and tell me what a great person and what a person Doug was.'' We were hoping to be there to help,” Kramer said. “But he said, 'Hey, I love Doug. Doug would make a great cabinet minister.'”
Cramer said he was not surprised by Trump's comments on the call, saying that Trump and Burgum “worked very closely together” during Trump's first term, and that “Doug and First Lady Kathryn “He was a frequent visitor to the White House.”
“The first lady had also worked with Larry Kudlow and others on addiction, and they really had a very strong bond and friendship, as well as a partnership on energy policy in particular,” he added.
Mr. Cramer also noted that the former president has spoken highly of the North Dakota governor in private conversations since Mr. Cramer endorsed the North Dakota governor after Mr. Burgum resigned.
“I called President Trump that day and said, 'We should start talking now because Doug isn't running.' And that night I endorsed him on Bismarck's radio show. “I'm raving about Doug again in public,” he added, “and I'm the same in private.”
Cramer praised Burgum, calling him “a very capable governor, a very capable citizen and business leader,” adding, “I think philosophically he's pretty much in line with President Trump.” Ta.
“His biggest challenge is being on the ballot this year if he wants to run for re-election. So he has to make that decision first, or he may not,” Cramer said. added.
The senator also said in response to a question from Breitbart News that he would be “surprised” to see Burgum at the top of Trump's presidential shortlist, citing the fact that “North Dakota… He said that's because he believes “people like the governor and the governor of South Dakota don't bring in new votes.” “The tickets are safe,'' but emphasized that “they get along very, very well.''
“Obviously, you need a running mate that you can work with and get along with, someone who can fill in for you if you need to, and everything you want, but… “At the same time, you need a running mate who can add: Worth the ticket from an electoral perspective,” he explained. “And I like Doug, but I just don't see him… So to speak, it's going to involve Wisconsin in terms of general electoral politics. ”
Breitbart News also reached out to Hoeven's office for comment on Burgum's background and personality.
“I have known Doug Burgum for a long time. He has been a leader in our state both in the private sector and currently serving as governor,” Hoeven said in an email provided by the team. said in a statement.
Another prominent Midwest Republican who praised Burgum on Breitbart News was Iowa Attorney General Brenna Byrd. In an interview Tuesday summarizing Trump's historic victory in Monday's caucuses, Byrd said she met Burgum on the campaign trail and that she called him a “great leader.”
“I met Governor Burgum during a caucus where he was campaigning. My husband and I even had a chance to sit down and have dinner with Burgum members one evening. It was a special time. “I'm very impressed with both of them,'' Bird said.
“He's good at getting things done, he's good at turning things around, and he's very focused,” she added. “So I think he's a great governor and I think President Trump is very happy to have him as governor and appreciates his support.” [very] They seem to be looking forward to working together. ”
Mr. Trump, along with Mr. Burgum, conservative radio host Larry Elder, businessman Perry Johnson, and now entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswami, who withdrew from the race after the caucuses and supported Mr. Trump. He has secured support and continues to attract support from his former campaign rivals.
Ramaswamy appeared on stage with President Trump in New Hampshire on Tuesday night, saying the 45th president “will continue to work with us and will continue to work with us for a long time.”
