Special Counsel David Weiss revealed in a new court filing that FBI agents recently found cocaine in a handgun that Hunter Biden allegedly purchased illegally in 2018.
This new detail was included in Weiss' response to Hunter Biden. Motion to ask a federal judge to dismiss He was charged with felonious use of a firearm in October 2018 for lying about drug use when purchasing a revolver. His eldest son's lawyers argue that Hunter is the victim of selective and vindictive prosecution.
Mr. Weiss and his prosecution team addressed this claim in their filings. But they also go to great pains to explain why the preponderance of evidence against Hunter is “overwhelming” and why dismissing the secret case would be a legal offense.
For example, Weiss explained:
In 2023, FBI agents removed sealed evidence from a state police archive and photographed the defendant's firearm. After opening the evidence, FBI agents observed a white powdery substance on defendant's brown leather pouch that contained defendant's firearm in October 2018. Based on their training and experience, investigators believed that the substance was likely cocaine and that this evidence supported the evidence. Messages obtained by investigators showed the defendant purchased and used drugs in October 2018. FBI chemists then analyzed the residue and determined it was cocaine.
“Let me be clear: Investigators literally found drugs in the pouch where the defendant kept his gun,” he stressed.
The filing is also significant in that it marks the first time Weiss has confirmed the legitimacy of Hunter Biden's infamous laptop, which Biden defenders claimed was Russian disinformation before the 2020 election. be.
Weiss explained:
In August 2019, IRS and FBI agents obtained a search warrant for the defendant's Apple iCloud account for tax violations. In response to this warrant, Apple in September 2019 created backups of data from various electronic devices that the defendants had backed up to their iCloud accounts. Investigators later obtained an Apple MacBook Pro that the defendant had left behind at a computer store.. A search warrant was also obtained for his laptop, and the search results largely overlapped with information investigators had already obtained from Apple.
Weiss denounced Hunter's claims that he is the victim of selective prosecution and right-wing bias, calling them a “conspiracy theory.”
“While leaving behind an inconvenient truth that attempts to explain why something like this could happen under the Biden administration, the defendants suggest that sinister motives lurk deep within the Department of Justice,” Weiss said. he wrote. “This theory is fiction created for Hollywood scripts.”
“The charges in this case were not trumped up or the fault of former President Trump, but rather the result of the defendant's own choices, and were brought in spite of, rather than due to, outside noise from politicians. Yes,” Weiss said.
Hunter will likely stand trial in the case later this year. He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
