Greg Olsen 1, Mike Greenberg 0.
Fox announcer Olsen said Sunday that it would be “insane” for the Cowboys to move on from embattled head coach Mike McCarthy, telling the world and especially ESPN host Greenberg It made me realize that I was right.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced Wednesday that McCarthy would return despite an embarrassing 48-32 loss at home to the Packers in a wild-card matchup.
“I guess Sunday wasn't that crazy, huh?” Olsen tweeted Wednesday night.. “Emotional decisions make people feel good. They almost never have a positive outcome.”
Despite three consecutive early postseason exits for the NFC East champions, including two one-and-done games, Olsen said in the final minutes of Sunday's game that the Cowboys should not fire McCarthy. It attracted the attention of the people in the department.
Sunday's loss was the worst as the Cowboys are favored by 7 to 7.5 points at most sportsbooks and were soundly beaten by a young team.
“I think the talk about replacing Mike McCarthy is crazy.'' Olsen said on Sunday.. “But I always think, the best practice is, if you let go of a coach, would someone else hire him?”
“I think the answer is clear for Mike McCarthy. With him having this level of consistent success, teams are going to go above and beyond and hire him. The answer to that question is yes. If so, that's your answer. ”
Following Olsen's comments, Greenberg tweeted his thoughts Sunday night.
“I really enjoy Greg Olsen on TV, but I couldn't agree more with Mike McCarthy.” Mr. Greenberg said:. “I don't think teams would 'jump in' and hire him if he was fired.”
Olsen discovered the tweet and explained his logic.
“Are you confident that you can replace a coach who won 36 games in three years, went 8-0 at home and was the NFL's leading scorer? His play-calling has definitely grown from there.” Olsen tweeted, referring to Greenberg.. “I'm very aware of what happens with Dallas. Those are special situations. SB or bust.
“I believe that the likes of Carolina and Atlanta will leapfrog us and win 12 games for the third year in a row. Maybe I'm wrong. Let us find out!!”
Well, the former tight end for the Panthers, Bears and Seahawks made the right decision as McCarthy will give him another chance in the 2024 NFL season and ultimately lead Dallas past the divisional round.
“We believe this team is very close and capable of achieving our ultimate goals, and having Mike McCarthy as our head coach will be the best step forward for us,” Jones said in a statement. Ta. “There are great benefits to continuing the progress of our team under Mike's leadership as head coach.
“This season in particular, a lot of success has come as a result of Mike's approach to leading the team, both with individual players and the team as a whole.”
Olsen and play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt will be in Santa Clara on Saturday when the 49ers host the Packers.
