House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said Thursday that Hunter Biden will be speaking with five Biden family members on various dates. He announced that he will attend a private press conference on February 28th with other people.
The announcement came as a surprise to some Republicans. Last week, speakers cleared a procedural hurdle in preparation for a House vote to hold Hunter in contempt of Congress for failing to appear for his deposition.
Hunter last week offered to appear at the deposition if Congress reissued the subpoena, saying the impeachment inquiry “didn't yet exist at the time the subpoena was issued,” so the earlier subpoena It argued that the letter was “legally invalid.”
Republican chairmen initially accepted the proposal, but warned that the House would proceed with contempt proceedings this week.
The Chairs viewed Mr. Hunter's proposal as another delaying tactic. Hunter's offer also appears to have been a public relations ploy to give Attorney General Merrick Garland a reason not to prosecute if the contempt vote is successful.
After arguing with Hunter's attorney, Comer and Jordan changed their strategy. They do not plan to vote to detain Hunter in the Legislature's initiative and agreed to the deposition.
“Hunter Biden is scheduled to appear before the committee for a deposition on February 28, 2024,” the committee chairs said in a statement obtained by Breitbart News. “His sworn testimony will follow several interviews with Biden's family and associates.”
The scheduled dates for interviews with those involved in the impeachment inquiry are as follows:
- Week of January 22: Marvin Yang — former top executive of CEFC China Energy Company
- Week of January 22nd: Rob Walker — “representing” hunters around the world
- Week of January 29: “Money Man” Eric Schwerin — the family’s top financial lieutenant
- Week of January 29th: Joey Langston — Entourage
- Week of February 5th: Tony Bobulinski — former colleague who admitted to the infamous message “H keep $10 for big shots” referring to Joe Biden
Hunter is a key witness in the House impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. House investigators launched an investigation into the Biden family in November 2022, revealing that Joe Biden had received money from James Biden and Hunter Biden. They also revealed that nine additional members of the Biden family, including two of Joe Biden's grandchildren, received compensation from the family's overseas business operations.
