Aaron Boone has plenty of time to think about Juan Soto's spot in the Yankees' lineup, and while there are still a few weeks before the pitcher and catcher report to Tampa, it's already clear the direction he's leaning.
The Yankees manager entered “foul territory” on Friday and was asked about the Yankees' lineup early in the interview.
“Right now, Juan is probably in two holes. [Aaron Judge] No. 3,'' Boone said in response to a question from former major leaguer Todd Frazier, who played for the Yankees in late 2017.
“But we're going to wait and see how the leadoff spot shakes out.”
For the aforementioned leadoff spot, Boone mentioned DJ LeMahieu, Alex Verdugo and Gleyber Torres as potential options.
But overall, the Yankees captain still doesn't have anything 100 percent complete on his contract.
As for Judge and Soto, he imagines them to be close in the lineup.
“I see Aaron and Soto hitting back-to-back. I don’t know if one is going to hit two, the other is going to hit three, the other is going to hit three, the other is going to hit two, but we’ll see how they shake it off. “Maybe it depends on who's actually hitting in that leadoff spot, who's hitting after the fourth hole,” Boone offered.
“I think one of the interesting things about our potential lineup this year is balance. We'll probably have more than four or five left-handers in the lineup,” he admitted.
“We can really change things. It's not about when Jason Dominguez comes back at some point in the summer.”
