As support for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in New Hampshire's upcoming Republican presidential primary appears to be declining in recent polls, DeSantis' representatives said Sunday that the “real battle” is He decided not to participate in the vote, saying the South Carolina primary would be the deciding vote.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) appeared on “Fox News Sunday” and said two new polls showed DeSantis leading former President Trump and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. He was asked if the investigation was the reason for canceling the governor's court appearance. on the show circuit on Sunday.

“We've never had high hopes for New Hampshire anyway,” Massey responded. “And Nicki is taking advantage of the uniqueness of primaries, where unfilers, even Democrats, can vote in the Republican primary.”

“I think the real battle is in South Carolina,” he continued. “And I think that's where Nikki Haley is stumbling. She's going to live up to her expectations and she's not going to even win her state.”

Two new polls released Sunday morning show DeSantis in a distant third place in New Hampshire, behind Trump and Haley.

A University of New Hampshire/CNN poll showed Trump with 50% support, Haley with 39%, and DeSantis in the single digits with 6%.

Meanwhile, a daily tracking poll released by Suffolk University, the Boston Globe and Boston's NBC10 showed Trump leading by 55%, compared to 36% for Haley and 6% for DeSantis. .

A new poll shows Haley has a majority of support among New Hampshire's independent voters, known as undeclared voters. Independents can vote in races for either major party and have long played an influential role in the state's prestigious presidential primaries.

With New Hampshire's Republican primary scheduled for Tuesday, DeSantis has already begun to shift his focus to Haley's home state of South Carolina, where he campaigned over the weekend.
