Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said Republicans “must move forward” with the Department of Homeland Security. Alejandro Mayorkas crosses the finish line to be impeached as the dangers from the U.S. southern border continue to impact communities across the country.
“This one man is the architect of the destruction here. One man is behind all this chaos, the deaths from fentanyl poisoning, the danger to our country from terrorist infiltration, the 8 million encounters with no legal status. He's the architect. He's destroyed the fabric of this country,” McCall told Fox News' Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.
McCaul appeared live on “Sunday Morning Futures” from Pharr, Texas, to weigh in on the Republican effort to impeach Mayorkas, who has come under fire for his alleged mishandling of the border crisis.

“The founding fathers said a violation of the public trust is enough for impeachment, and we're going to move forward with impeachment. Chairman Mark Green is doing a great job. We're working together. .Articles of impeachment [on] January 31st. We will then impeach him.”

McCaul also answered questions from Bartiromo about funding the government after Congressional Republicans agreed to a third continuing resolution aimed at averting a government shutdown.
Bartiromo said Sunday that the deal “extends the Democratic agenda that was previously set.” [former] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer went back to December 2022 and accused Republicans of “kicking.”[ing] “Instead of fighting to deal with the border crisis, it could be possible in the future.”
“So why did you do that? Why did you keep kicking the can down the road and funding this government when you saw it up close and personal at the border and saw the devastating effects? ” she asked.

McCall responded, “I didn't kick the can in the street. I didn't want to take the soccer ball and go home and play on the soccer field. You can't win games if you're not on the field.”And in fact, it would endanger our military readiness at a very dangerous time. [and] our veterans. And you know what? Yesterday I was with the Border Patrol all day just to go home and tell them that we're not going to give you a paycheck for your work, and that's insulting…”
“What we need is about a month to resolve this issue. We want to get a border security package. We couldn't come to an agreement, which is unfortunate. The whole process “It should have been completed a year ago, but we had to make the decision where we were,” he continued.
McCaul also accused the Biden administration of suppressing progress made on the border during former President Donald Trump's tenure, such as reversing the Remain in Mexico policy.
