A progressive activist gained attention on social media after explaining his support for the Palestinians in light of the Israel-Hamas war and arguing that Jewish suffering is not “exceptional.”
“There have been so many similar massacres,” Nicole Carty said. new york times magazine last week. She said at another point that it was “very strange” that the Jewish holiday of Passover was simply about “the conquest of the Jews.”
Carty, an activist who heads a group calling for reparations for black Americans, is part of a growing movement to unite Jews and black progressives in protest of Israel's actions in Gaza since the Oct. 7 Hamas attack. I was concerned about what I was doing.
“The question for white Jews is: to what extent does assimilation into whiteness mean not disrupting white supremacy and oppression against all of us?” Carty told NYT Magazine.

Carty, who was also active with the far-left anti-Israel Jewish group If Not Now, said black Americans are witnessing their own history of oppression unfolding in the Middle East with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
“The Palestinian experience activates black trauma,” she says. Although the activist has allied with Jewish groups on racial justice causes in the past, she is concerned about the level of white Jewish involvement in the Palestinian cause.
Carty said that in the days after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, pro-Palestinian Jewish allies like IfNotNow organized vigils for the victims and pushed her in the wrong direction. .
“Jewish friends paid their respects,” Carty said. “It felt right to them. But it wasn't right to me. I didn't do that. The timing wasn't right. I tried to show compassion. “We tried hard, but we took the time to actually speak out.” It's a politically targeted way to respond to the Palestinian genocide, and we all want to see it happening. I was able to see it. ”

Jewish groups prayed for the souls of the murdered Israelis and Palestinians, but Carty said the incident was part of a trend of Jewish “trauma myopia”.
She urged Jews to recognize that “their history and relationship to trauma and dehumanization has been exceptionalized.” [sic]. ”
“I have attended Passover many times, and it is so strange that the story is only about the conquest of the Jews, when for other people the conquest is still very much present. ” she added.
“Black people still don't have their history respected. We still don't recognize the impact of slavery and the continuing impact of white supremacy,” Carty argued.

The activist hopes for a “multiracial democracy'' in the Middle East, where “all people have equal rights and all religions are respected,'' and he blames the conflict on slavery and civil rights in the United States. I compared it to a fight.
Carty's comments on Passover and other topics raised eyebrows at X.
Some critics have pushed back against the progressive narrative that portrays Israel as a white oppressor in the Middle East, calling it “grossly inaccurate.”
“The reality is that in Israel you you will meet a jew They look black, brown, Asian, African, and everything in between,” Dan Fefferman, a former national security adviser at the Israeli Ministry of Defense, told Fox News Digital.
“This false portrayal is highly inaccurate and unfortunately causes hostility in the Middle East and around the world.” Against Israel.” he added.
