Rachel Maddow: Trump is selling ‘the end of politics’ to his base

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said former President Trump is selling the “end of politics” to his supporters as he runs for the White House in 2024, saying he supports “strongman leaders.” He claimed to be advocating a national vision.

“Donald Trump is leading the Republican Party and leading the pack of Republican candidates not because of some youthful exuberance, not because of policy preferences or eloquence. None of that happened. I haven’t.” Maddow said during his appearance. on the Monday evening network.

“What he's offering is what he's essentially offering and now increasingly explicitly offering: 'If you choose me, It's the end of politics…” [you] “I don't have to deal with politics anymore,” she said.

Maddow argued that Trump is trying to tell his supporters that if they support him, “we don't have to deal with a disputed election anymore.”

“When it comes to power, I don't have to deal with conflict or hierarchy. I just do what I want because I have a strong leader. Isn't that much easier?” Maddow said. “That's what he's offering. That strongman model is what the Republican base aspires to.”

President Trump has repeatedly attacked MSNBC over its coverage, accusing its leaders of treasonous behavior and recently suggested some networks be taken off the air.

MSNBC emphasized that it would not broadcast Mr. Trump's remarks live during its coverage of the Iowa caucuses last week, citing what Mr. Maddow called a journalistic responsibility to the truth.

Trump is the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
