Former President Trump used the opportunity to poke a peck at Republican rival Nikki Haley after Sen. Tim Scott (RS.C.) failed to show support during his victory speech in New Hampshire on Tuesday. .
“Have you ever thought about [about how] Did she really appoint you, Tim? … And you’re her state senator,” Trump told Scott, referring to Haley, the former governor of the Palmetto State.
“You must really hate her,” he added.
His words come after the South Carolina senator. suspended his own presidential bid In November, Haley announced her support for Trump over the weekend, drawing criticism from Haley's closest allies.
On Tuesday, Mr. Scott, standing behind the former president and smiling broadly, took to the stage and replied, “I just love you.”
Haley, who continues to lead polls, also mocked Haley in a post-primary speech in which she said the campaign was not over after the Granite State was tipped in Trump's favor. He claimed she had a “very bad night” and later added that he “can't let her bullshit get away” with her.
President Trump urged her to cancel her campaign in an interview with Fox News Digital after the primary.
“Otherwise, we have to keep wasting money instead of spending it on Biden,” he said.
Haley's campaign fired back, arguing that Haley's narrow margins in both the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary “do not strongly support a former president demanding a coronation.”
In her remarks, Haley said Tuesday's election may have been the nation's first primary, but “it will not be the nation's last.”
“This race is not over yet,” she said.
Immediately after New Hampshire polls closed at 8 p.m., Hill/Decision Desk headquarters called the Republican ticket to Trump. With more than 170,000 votes cast, the former president received 54.6 percent support, followed by Haley with 43.4 percent.
Trump continues to comfortably lead Haley in South Carolina, where the next major primary will be held on February 24th. The average poll from The Hill/Decision Desk shows Trump leading by more than 30 points.
