Brock Purdy explains heated spat with 49ers’ Ray-Ray McCloud

Brock Purdy made no secret of his frustration at key moments of the game.

The 49ers quarterback was captured on a Fox broadcast yelling, “What are you doing?!” during Saturday's divisional round playoff game against the Packers. With San Francisco leading by four points early in the fourth quarter, he gave up a pass to wide receiver RayRay McLeod after an incomplete pass on third-and-10 near the Green Bay 40-yard line.

After the 49ers were forced to punt, Purdy and McLeod got into an altercation on the sideline.

A late touchdown gave the 49ers a 24-21 victory and they will host the Lions in Sunday's NFC Championship Game, but Purdy was asked about the trade on Wednesday.

“I'm just making my own progress,” Purdy told reporters. “And I'm hoping that from where I am, with the pocket closing and all that, he's where he's supposed to be on the route we requested. [Packers] In fact, the corner guarding him slipped, so he wisely raised his hands and tried to run into space, which I understand.

“In that moment, I thought, 'Hey, you've got to be where you're supposed to be, where I expect you to be.' But I'm like, what are you doing? I completely understand. If a player falls, there's a big play in store. So we talked about it and we ended up on good terms, and moving forward, we… know what to expect from each other and when to stand in the moment again.

“It's just communication. We're competitors. When the battle gets intense, these things happen. We needed that third down at that moment in the game. So there was a little bit of frustration. , it's nothing but love. I completely trust and respect Ray Ray and his accomplishments, and we're going to get even better from it.”

McLeod, a returner signed by the Niners in 2022 after two seasons with the Steelers, caught the game's only goal, a 7-yard completion. He had 12 catches for 135 yards during the regular season.

Purdy struggled throughout the game, but completed a 12-play, 69-yard drive that culminated with Christian McCaffrey's 6-yard rushing touchdown with 1:07 left.
