Newsom: Congressional Republicans ‘pathetically weak’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) criticized Congressional Republicans as “pathetically weak” for capitulating to former President Trump on the border in an interview aired Thursday.

“Mitch McConnell, I thought it was shameful that it was reported,'' Newsom said. Said MSNBC's Alex Wagner mentioned Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). “He just completely rolled over and surrendered.

“Don't bring up the weaknesses of the current speaker of the House,” Newsom added, referring to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana). “So they don't want an agreement or a contract.”

“I think what the Republican Party is doing, what Donald Trump is doing, is shameful,” Newsom said in an interview on MSNBC that was covered by Mediaite. “And this is hidden in plain sight. He sent out tweets and truths saying, 'Kill me.' And these people are very weak. This Republican Party is pathetically weak. ”

McConnell told his fellow Republican senators on Wednesday that passing border security reform along with aid to Ukraine is proving more difficult than initially expected. He also noted that it may be impossible to overcome the former president's hostility to any border security agreement.

McConnell also proposed splitting funding for Ukraine from border security reform with Senate Republicans.

Senate Republicans who support sending aid to Ukraine and forging a deal with Democrats on border security are pinning their hopes on those close to President Trump, hoping they can stop him from sinking. ing.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), chairwoman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, told colleagues who support the former president to refrain from disparaging the deal pending a review by lawmakers this week. I asked them to request it to stop.
