The referee blew his whistle, but Hansen and McDaniel continued to play.

“It looked like some hands were thrown,” one broadcaster said when replay video showed the scuffle from a different angle.

After Maryland went cold offensively, Michigan rallied and went back to overtime, but had just nine shots in the fourth quarter.

A botched inbounds play that led to a turnover ruined Maryland's chances to win in overtime.

Maryland coach Brenda Frese was surprised the skirmish didn't inspire her team.

“I thought [the ejection] It will motivate us.” Mr. Frese said.. “But it didn't really inspire us in any way. I thought Michigan was more inspired. [after the ejections]”

Kyla Evans had 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Wolverines, while Jakia Brown-Turner had 12 points, six rebounds and seven points for the Terrapins.

Maryland (12-7) will travel to State College to take on Penn State (14-5) Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

The Wolverines (14-6) will visit Michigan State (14-5) on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
