Kailyn Lowry detailed the trauma of leaving one of her twin babies in the NICU and returning home with her other newborn.
The Teen Mom 2 star, 31, announced last week that she prematurely gave birth to twins 6 and 7 via C-section with boyfriend Elijah Scott.
But Laurie spoke of the heartbreak of having her twins admitted to the NICU and her newborn son being discharged from the hospital before her infant daughter. on Friday's episode of her podcast “Barely Famous.”
“For me, when I went to the NICU, you weren't there with me,” Laurie told Scott, recalling the hardships of commuting to and from the hospital, an hour round trip from her home.
“[The girl twin] Separated from her twin. We were away from her. When we were at home, there was so much going on here that we just couldn't process it yet,” said Laurie.
The “16 and Pregnant” alum said she doesn't know how she was able to keep it all together while balancing everything.
“I don't think I've been able to process it to this day. I went to the pediatrician yesterday and I'm still so worried about so many things,” Laurie said.

The MTV personality broke down in tears while her husband stayed home with their newborn son Baby A and five other children, calling their daughter Baby B in the hospital. I remembered. As she was in tears, her doctor asked her if she needed psychological help.
“I said I had a personal therapist, but I'm separated from my infant, and my infant is separated from his twins. And I feel like that was enough for me to cry.” ,” Lowry said. “And I know he didn't mean anything by that. He was hiding all his legal grounds, but crying felt like a normal reaction for me. So I felt like I had been punched in the gut.”
she continued. “But at the same time, I understand that because I've experienced postpartum depression too. So I also understand covering all the bases to see if someone really needs the resources… I don't think it mattered.'' It wasn't how he said it, it was how he said it. ”
Laurie welcomed babies A and B five weeks early, but wasn't able to hold them until 24 hours after they were born and everything was set up in the NICU.
“They weren't just there for a few days. We were there for weeks, but we learned a lot about the families there, some of whom have been there for months.” said Laurie.
The reality TV star said Baby B was having trouble breastfeeding and “wasn't showing any signs of hunger.”
“She would just sleep while feeding. She didn't have any cues to feed, so even when I tried to feed her, she wouldn't take the bottle,” Laurie recalled. I did.
“And that was really difficult, because I was looking at him.” [Baby A]And I see him in the NICU for similar reasons, but he also drinks from a bottle and I have no problem with that. And she was just sleeping all the time,” Laurie said through tears.
Lowry cried “a lot” and recalled being more emotional about the “NICU journey” than the C-section.
“I was there for hours,” Lowry said, “and we have six other children. When he was discharged from the NICU, we took him home. Ta.”
Although Laurie has been able to form a bond with Baby B, she worries that the little girl will have a hard time bonding with her twin brother.
“I feel like they need it because they've been apart for so long [to bond] …If you stay in the NICU, you worry about what will happen if it breaks their bond or puts a strain on them,” she said. “We're trying to remagnetize them and put them back in place.”
Amid rumors of her pregnancy, Lowry revealed in October last year that she was pregnant with twins.
She and Scott also secretly welcomed a son named Rio in November 2022, but didn't share the news of his birth until July of the following year.
Lowry's other four births were well documented on her show Teen Mom before she ended the series in 2022.
She became a mother for the first time in 2010 at the age of 17 and had son Isaac, now 14, with her then-boyfriend Joe Rivera.
Lowry then married Javi Marroquín in 2012 and they had a 12-year-old son, Lincoln, but they divorced in 2017 after four years of marriage.
The podcast host, who confirmed her relationship with Scott in 2022, also shares rainbow babies son Lux, 6, and son Creed, 3, with ex-boyfriend Chris Lopez.
