Colorado self-reports 11 minor NCAA violations under Deion Sanders: report

The Colorado football program has become the talk of college football. Deion Sanders' first season as head coach of the Buffaloes.

The program self-reported 11 minor NCAA violations, according to documents obtained by . USA Today Sports. There are no significant penalties for any violations.

“The University of Colorado Boulder Athletic Department is committed to complying with NCAA rules and will continue to educate coaches, student-athletes and staff to remain compliant,” the University of Colorado said in a statement to the magazine. ” he said. “We take all violations, regardless of severity, seriously, and in these particular cases, all of these minor violations were self-reported to the NCAA.”

All of the violations appear to be inadvertent and are common among “virtually all major college athletic departments,” according to USA Today Sports.

The first incident occurred in May when Colorado State hosted a graduate student camp with more than 350 players attending. The camp was open to players in the transfer portal and high school graduates. The school reported the participation of seven players who were not “active” on the portal.

Colorado imposed a two-week ban on all recruiting activities from June 15th to June 28th.

The second transfer portal violation occurred in December 2022, shortly after Sanders took office. High school coaches submitted transcripts to Colorado State for recruits who have not yet entered the transfer portal.

Among other violations, Colorado self-reported three: Social mediaSanders used this to perfection during his coaching career.

Sanders hosted an Instagram Live in May 2023 and featured job candidates in the stream. Freshmen are not allowed to be involved in media activities with their school's head coach.

In January 2023, Sanders reposted the following video: volunteering in colorado Go to Instagram. It is an NCAA violation to post the video on social media.

Colorado also self-reported violations in May, including impermissible contact with a recruit and accessing a premium seating area while a recruit was watching a game.

The Buffaloes got off to a 3-0 start and were the talk of college football for the first few weeks of the season. After a hot start, Colorado regressed, losing eight of their final nine games and ending the season with six straight losses.
