Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce aren’t the only ones who used a kiss to win a conference championship.
Moments after leading the 49ers to a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Lions in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, quarterback Brock Purdy hugged his fiancee, superfan Jenna Brandt, on the field at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. .
The couple shared a kiss as a nearby crowd celebrated San Francisco’s 34-31 victory and a berth in the 2024 Super Bowl.
Blount, who announced his engagement to Purdy in July 2023, gushed about the second-year quarterback in an Instagram post hours after the game.
“I’m proud, I’m so proud,” she wrote on Monday.
Purdy went 20-of-31 for 267 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the championship game, erasing a 17-point deficit in the second half.
“No one panicked. That’s football. We have a lot of experienced players on this team, some veteran players who have been put in crazy situations. We just said, ‘We’ve got to do our job.’ I was like, ‘No, no,'” Purdy said.
The former Iowa product, the final pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, also celebrated with his teammates after the game as he presented the George Halas Trophy to the NFC champions.
“We’re lucky to have him as our quarterback,” said running back Christian McCaffrey, who ran for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
“He gets a fever for no reason at all.”
There was a lot of talk about Purdy’s play entering Sunday’s game following last weekend’s heartbreaking loss to the Packers in the district round.
“Weather, that’s football, you just have to overcome it,” Purdy said after going 23-for-39 for 252 yards and one touchdown in a 24-21 win.
“After a while we got into a rhythm. That’s on me. Overall, we had to find a way to win and we made it work.”
The 49ers will now head to Las Vegas to face the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs, who defeated the Ravens in the AFC title game early Sunday morning.
The 2024 Super Bowl will begin at Allegiant Stadium on February 11th at 6:30 p.m.
