RFK Jr. says Trump team has ‘reached out’ about being ex-prez’s VP despite denial

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says Donald Trump’s team is certainly on the ticket to becoming the Republican front-runner, despite attempts by the 77-year-old’s aides to throw cold water on the possibility. He said he had contacted him about the possibility of joining.

“People on the team reached out to me,” Kennedy, 70, said. told NewsNation before shooting down any chance of a Trump-Kennedy ticket.

“I wouldn’t take that job,” he said. “I’m honored that President Trump is offering it to me, but it’s not something I’m interested in.”

The Post reported Saturday that the Trump campaign had been in contact with RFK Jr. about the possibility of a “premature” vice president as Kennedy launched his 2024 campaign in April.

Later that day, top Trump campaign aide Chris LaCivita disputed the report and attacked the independents’ policies.

“This is 100% fake news – no one from the Trump campaign ever approached RFK Jr.” [sic] (or ever will be) – one of the most liberal and radical environmentalists in this country. For all the fake news, please update the story,” LaCivita posed on X Saturday.

Asked by The Post on Tuesday if RFK Jr. was lying, Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chan said “yes,” before referring to LaCivita’s statement.

Kennedy has been in contact with a wide range of Republican candidates and operatives since switching his party affiliation from Democratic to independent in October.

In November, Kennedy was seen speaking with former 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy about the “military-industrial complex” and headlined the Conservative Political Action Conference in Las Vegas.

Attendees at the Salt Lake City rally told The Post in November that President Kennedy has focused on environmental issues and skepticism about coronavirus vaccines, and has so far lost ground to third-party candidates. They say they are appealing to voters who have never voted.

The candidate drew about 700 people to an event in Utah and is holding rallies across the country in hopes of getting to the polls in all 50 states.

Kennedy will need to spend about $15 million to get on the national ballot in the Nov. 5 general election, campaign spokeswoman Stephanie Speer said.

The Kennedy campaign has so far said it has enough signatures to appear on the ballot in Utah and New Hampshire.
