A South Carolina couple who allegedly “wanted to be Bonnie and Clyde” were arrested after leading police on a chase in a spray-painted car with a dog, cat and four chickens inside, authorities said Tuesday. .
According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, suspect Joshua Harvey was driving a black Honda sedan with expired tags near South Frontage Road and Cook Road in Graycourt around 9 a.m. Monday. announced that they had discovered it for the first time.
Harvey was driving erratically and appeared to be having trouble staying in his lane.
According to the sheriff’s office, Harvey refused when officers tried to pull him over and led them on a chase across the Greenville County line, leading officers to stop him. It was then that they decided to discontinue the pursuit.

After searching the area around Mr. Harvey’s residence, deputies encountered the vehicle driving recklessly around 2:45 p.m. However, the vehicle was spray-painted white to deceive authorities, according to the sheriff’s office.

When the officer attempted a second traffic stop, the driver again refused to pull over and led the officer on a pursuit. Officials said the pursuit was again ended for safety reasons due to school traffic congestion at that time of day.
As the vehicle continued on Interstate 14 toward Interstate 385, troopers resumed pursuit, and troopers observed the driver illegally and recklessly passing vehicles.

The spray-painted sedan ended up being disabled on the interstate, and the driver was identified as Rosie Smith, whom the sheriff’s office described as Harvey’s “mistress.”

“The Bonnie and Clyde wannabes tried to make a habit of running away from law enforcement, but ultimately their luck ran out,” Sheriff Don Reynolds said in a written statement. “I would like to thank the law enforcement agencies involved for their efforts to keep these men behind bars, and I am grateful for a safe conclusion.”
While deputies took Harvey and Smith into custody, officers found a dog, a cat and four chickens inside the vehicle. The animal was turned over to animal control personnel.

Harvey was charged with failure to stop. Smith was charged with failure to stop, driving under the influence, two counts of animal cruelty, and driving while suspended.
