Rep. Cori Bush (D-Missouri) said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “The Readout” that Rep. Troy Neals’ (R-Texas) criticism of her is “racist and sexist.” “It’s a metaphor,” he said.
Anchor Joy Reid said, “Let’s start with the fact that the independent Office of Congressional Ethics cleared this issue. How did the Justice Department investigation proceed after that?”
President Bush said, “So what happened is someone filed a complaint. I believe they sent the complaint to the FEC, but I’m hearing that it’s moving very slowly. , because, you know, they didn’t see anything happening, they didn’t see any movement, so they decided, there’s an article about it, they decided, “Hey, I’m the Department of Justice. I want House Ethics, I want all of these things.” The various entities need to be investigated now. ” So they used to ask all these different organizations to look into it. ”
“She doesn’t even support the police,” Rep. Troy Neals (R-Texas) said on the Capitol steps. “But the idea of paying her thugs to protect her? If I hadn’t, I probably wouldn’t have been threatened.”
The reporter asked, “Are you saying she deserves the threat?”
Mr Niels replied: “No, what I’m trying to say is that I’m surprised that people are probably pretty upset when you talk like she is, because she’s a pretty extreme person. And… Maybe you should donate a little.”
Reid said, “Then let me respond to you.”
President Bush said, “Totally ignorant, anti-Black, racist, sexist statements by a fellow sitting member of Congress whom I have never met. It’s no surprise that he spewed such disgusting things and called my husband my thuggery.” Call him a thug? What qualifies him as a thug? What does he know to call himself a thug? That’s a dog whistle.”
She added: “And you say I’m too loud? I support St. Louis. Am I too loud? If you solved St. Louis’ problems, we wouldn’t have to talk about it. We wouldn’t have to make a fuss. But yes, I’m going to say it out loud. It’s my prerogative to be loud or quiet. The fact that he’s saying it out loud shows racism in Congress at its finest. I’m just there.”
