The University of Minnesota Gophers women’s basketball team is welcoming the daughter of a Minnesota sports icon.
Ali Peterson, the eighth-grade daughter of former Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, received an offer from the University of Minnesota this week. she posted on instagram.
“After having a nice talk with the coach, [Dawn] Pritzweit, I’m very happy and excited to receive my first offer from the University of Minnesota! Go Gophers! Peterson added the hashtag “uncommitted” at the end.
Peterson is still a few years away from playing college basketball, but he is already playing at an elite level at Providence Academy in Plymouth, Minnesota.
She is averaging 11.8 points per game this season, and Peterson, a member of the Class of 2028, could receive more scholarship offers as she develops.
Providence Academy is 17-3 this season, and the program also features another child of a former Vikings player, Madin Greenway, the daughter of Chad Greenway.
Greenway is another highly anticipated prospect from the school and one of the top players in the Class of 2026. ESPN’s HoopGurlz recruiting rankings.
Peterson’s father, Adrian Peterson, is best known for playing 10 years with the Minnesota Vikings and becoming a star for the Purple and Gold.
He bounced around several teams late in his career and was not signed for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, despite expressing his desire to play last year.
In an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram last May, he said “mentally,” he “hasn’t given up” yet.
“We’ll see what happens,” he said at the time. “The way I think about it is, if God wills it, we might get a chance and it might happen this season. We’ll go from there. But [if] Nothing happens this season, certainly I would call it off. ”
