Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) will decide whether to run for re-election or retire this weekend, according to reports.
in Text message to Politico“I’ll probably decide what I’m going to do this weekend,” Spartz said.
The Indiana lawmaker announced in October that he would consider resigning if Congress did not establish a debt committee by the end of 2023.
Her announcement came shortly after Congress averted a government shutdown by passing a stopgap funding bill. Since then, Congress has passed two more continuing resolutions, the most recent on her Jan. 18.
Spartz announced on February 3, 2023, that he would not run for Congress in 2024 because he wanted to spend more time with his high school daughter, giving up his bid for the state’s vacant Senate seat and seeking re-election in the House. I didn’t pursue it either. Daughters.
Indiana Republicans are increasingly hopeful that Spartz will seek re-election, according to Politico. One member said her office was recruiting and she added a town hall event that she “wouldn’t do if it ended in December.”
Spartz told the outlet that he felt he needed to make a decision soon because he was under “tremendous pressure to run again.”
The Hill has reached out to her office for comment.
