St. Louis authorities continue to search for a 17-year-old murder suspect who escaped from the city’s juvenile detention center on Saturday.
Police have not released any information because the suspect is a minor. FOX2 reported. However, he is charged with second-degree murder in the Oct. 24, 2023 shooting death of 20-year-old Calvin Kelly. Local NBC stations identified the boy as a man.
Surveillance footage showed the detainees fleeing through a security gate and through a parking lot, KSDK-TV reported.
Officers searched the jail and the fugitive’s last known address, but the fugitive was nowhere to be found.

The victim’s mother told KSDK on Sunday that she learned through social media that the suspect who killed her son had fled, and that she strongly disagrees with the decision not to release his name.
“I’m —–,” said Nyesha Stewart, the victim’s mother. “Someone is supposed to be watching this boy 24 hours a day and he has to run away? It’s not fair. It’s not justice.”

“If we see him, how can we identify him and turn him in? I think that’s ridiculous and we need to do better,” said Kim Shannon, who is caring for a relative who lives near the scene of the shooting. There’s a need,” he told FOX. 2.
The St. Louis Police Department did not respond to FOX News’ request for comment.
