6 dead after drone strike hits Syrian base where US troops are stationed

A drone attack on a Syrian military base on Sunday killed at least six allied Kurdish soldiers. Although U.S. troops were stationed at the base, there were no casualties among them as a result of the attack. fox news digital.

The attack struck al-Omar training range in Syria’s Deir Ezzor province. The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said the drone attack hit part of a base where its special forces were training.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based opposition war monitor, said at least seven Kurdish fighters were killed and at least 18 others injured in the attack. Some of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

The report said this was the first major attack in Syria or Iraq since the US launched attacks against Iranian-backed militias. Militia groups have carried out attacks in the region since Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7.

The SDF initially said the attack was carried out by “mercenaries supported by the Syrian regime,” but blamed it on “Iranian-backed militias.” The Islamic Resistance Movement, the collective name for Iranian-backed militias in Iraq, claimed responsibility for Sunday’s attack and later released a video of the attack.

This is not the first time the group has launched attacks against US forces.Late last month, the same group reportedly carried out a drone strike on a base in Jordan, killing three U.S. soldiers and wounding dozens more. Islamic resistance groups have called on U.S. forces to withdraw from the area.

Fox News Digital reported that Houthi rebels have vowed that there will be “escalation” in the region after the US attack on Yemen. A spokesperson for the group said it would respond to the attack “no matter the cost”.

“The bombing of many Yemeni provinces by the US-UK coalition does not change our position and we are committed to ensuring that no matter what happens, the crime of genocide in Gaza will be stopped and the siege against the population lifted. We confirm that our military operations against Israel will continue until “the cost to us is high,” Mohamed al-Bukaiti posted on X.

“If a regional war breaks out, it would be tantamount to the end of US hegemony in the region,” the spokesperson said.
