Two Omaha police officers were working a side job at a business around 2 a.m. Saturday when they opened fire on men in an SUV, according to initial police statements of the weekend. The men, Fernando Rodriguez Juarez, 26, and Jonathan Hernandez Rosales, 28, later died at the hospital.

Police spokesman Officer Chris Gordon said the officers would be interviewed on Tuesday and that police would likely release their names afterwards. And police said they would likely hold a press conference on Thursday.

A Nebraska police officer will be investigated after an off-duty shooting in Omaha.

A candlelit memorial appeared at the scene Sunday, according to KETV-TV video.

Police said last weekend they found a handgun in the car, but did not say whether it was illegal or what motivated the two off-duty officers to shoot the men. Police also did not say whether the two officers identified themselves as police officers or whether they were wearing police uniforms.

One of the officers was wearing a body camera at the time of the shooting, and detectives were reviewing security footage from the business, authorities said.

Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, which is being handled by a team of police officers, the Nebraska State Patrol and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
