Bill Belichick turned down Falcons coaching offer: Boomer Esiason

Bill Belichick may not be without head coaching offers after all.

The legendary former Patriots coach reportedly interviewed twice with the Falcons but was not hired, and was not hired by any other team that had an opening.

He’s 71 years old, but given his history, Belichick’s lack of interest was somewhat surprising.

However, WFAN host and former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason claims that it was actually Belichick who had no interest in the Falcons, and that owner Arthur Blank made Belichick the offer. ing.

“I heard yesterday, and I believe it’s from that source, that maybe Arthur Blank was liked by Bill Belichick and could have offered him the job.” said Esiason. said on his “Boomer and Geo” show. on monday.

“I don’t know why everyone would say no, but legitimately NFL executives basically told me that they believe Arthur Blank offered the Bill that job. Now, how much does that offer include? There may have been some caveats, but it was never, “OK, Bill, we want you, it’s a five-year contract, you can do whatever you want.” I don’t think it was anything like that. ”

The Falcons instead hired Raheem Morris, who had been the Rams’ defensive coordinator to replace Arthur Smith, as their new head coach.

“The way that word is worded and the way it sounds is, “Okay, I understand your concerns, but you’re going to have to deal with this, and we want you to come, be our coach.” I’d like you to do that,’ and then maybe he thought better of it,” Esiason said.

“And I guess he said, ‘You know what? He doesn’t want to go back anytime soon. I want you to stay away for a year. I want to see what happens.’ Because, you know, next year there may be about five or six openings and a better situation where the owner says, ‘You know what? I want to go down this road with you, and I want you to take over my building and run it like you ran it with the New England Patriots. ”
