LAS VEGAS — Travis Kelce watched his girlfriend win a trophy Sunday and now he wants one of his own.
On Sunday, the Chiefs’ plane arrived here just in time for Kelce to attend the Grammy Awards and watch his girlfriend Taylor Swift win her fourth album of the year award.
“She’s unbelievable,” Kelsey said on Monday’s Super Bowl “Opening Night.” “She’s trying to rewrite her history books. I told her she needed to put up with the end of the bargain and take home the hardware as well.”
The Chiefs tight end drew a crowd during a media event at Allegiant Stadium.
Around his podium were more than a dozen cameras and about 100 reporters, some of whom remained in place for hours. Patrick Mahomes was the only Chiefs player to draw a similarly sized crowd.
This is nothing new for Kelce, who gained attention in last year’s Super Bowl against his older brother Jason, a center for the Eagles.
However, this one was a little different.
Kelsey’s crowd attracted reporters from the sports media as well as the entertainment world thanks to her high-profile romance with Swift.
“Inside Edition” and “Extra” reporters weren’t there to ask him questions about how to attack the 49ers’ defense Sunday.
Kelce didn’t shy away when the topic of Swift was brought up. he seemed to be enjoying it.
“I don’t know if I brought too much to the game,” he said of the Swifties, now Chiefs fans. “I just go out there and have fun. Taylor has an incredible fan base that has followed and supported her throughout her life.”
He praised Swift’s role in bringing new fans to the NFL.
“She definitely brought a lot of new faces to the game,” Kelce said. She said: “She enjoyed experiencing it.”
Kelce and Swift’s relationship has been one of the biggest storylines of the NFL season.
The two announced they were dating in September, and she quickly became a fixture at Chiefs games and NFL broadcasts.
Young girls who are Swift fans are currently rooting for the Chiefs in their quest to win their third Super Bowl championship in five years.
“It’s been fun bringing the Swifties together in the Chiefs kingdom and opening them up to the football world and the sports world,” Kelsey said. “It was so much fun just experiencing all of that.”
Swift is scheduled to attend the Super Bowl on Sunday, but will be flying home from Japan where she has a concert on Saturday.
“She seems to be enjoying the game,” Kelce said. “She’s part of the Chiefs kingdom now. Even though she knows the game of football is a little new to her, it’s fun to see her enjoying it.”
Entertainment reporters threw some curveballs at Kelce.
What era is he in? A reference to Swift’s “Eras” tour.
“It’s Super Bowl time,” Kelce said.
What’s your favorite Swift song?
“I would say ‘anti-hero’ now, because I hear it every day,” he said.
What can he learn from Swift and apply it to soccer?
“Well, that’s a great question. I don’t know. I think she has a great love for life,” Kelce said. “So I just check her own ego at her doorstep and bring the right energy every day.”
Swift announced that she would be releasing a new album in April, but Kelce said she has already heard parts of the album.
“I can’t believe it,” he said, adding that he would not reveal any more.
At one point, Kelce answered a question from comedian Carrot Top.
“What’s wrong with Carrot Top himself?” said Mr. Kelce. “I’m living the dream.”
Kelce, 34, also let everyone know that she’s not ready to retire and ride off into the sunset with Swift just yet.
“That’s a question I always get asked later in my career when I start to slow down,” Kelce said of his retirement. “So, thank you for letting me know that I’m not as good as I used to be. That’s something I have to think about. I think I come to this building and this arena and work hard for them.
“I have so much love for this game. I can’t imagine not playing it for as long as possible because I know I’m going to miss it when it’s all over. I don’t want to put a timestamp on how long I’m going to play it. I can’t do it, but now I enjoy going to work every day.”
