The House Rules Committee voted 8-4 to pass articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The article now goes to the House floor for a vote.

Just the News reported:

The House Rules Committee approved rules Monday that would allow the House to consider articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The committee approved the rule on an 8-4 vote, which also provides for consideration of an unrelated health care bill. The committee’s decision means the article could be voted on as early as Tuesday.

“I am not pleased with our actions today. However, Secretary Mayorkas’ actions amounted to a deliberate refusal to enforce our nation’s laws and an abdication of the American people’s trust. We will take action.” We need to,” panel chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) said, according to the New York Post. “Secretary Mayorkas has refused to uphold his oath of office. If he does not fulfill his duty, unfortunately the House must fulfill its constitutional duty.”

The article secured support from the Homeland Security Committee last week on an 18-15 vote. Republicans accused Mayorkas of “betrayal of trust” and “deliberate and systematic refusal to abide by the law” in connection with his response to the unprecedented influx of foreign nationals to the southern border.
