Patrick Mahomes offered little thought Monday night about his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr.,’s DUI arrest in Texas.
“He’s doing great,” Mahomes said during the 2024 Super Bowl opener.
“I don’t want to get into too much detail, but he does well in any situation.”
She added: “This is a family matter so I’m keeping it a secret from my family. That’s really all I can say at this point.”
Mahomes Sr., an 11-year MLB pitcher who pitched for the Mets during the 1999 and 2000 seasons, was arrested last Saturday after driving with an open 16-ounce Coors beer in his car, telling police: “I had a few beers,” he said. He was watching the game at a local bar,” the Smith County Sheriff’s Office affidavit states.
Police said the man was driving slower than other vehicles at the time, and a vehicle registration check showed the registration was due to expire in 2022.
According to Texas law, this is his third DWI, and a third conviction carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
“Based on the totality of the circumstances, we believe Patrick became visibly impaired while operating a motor vehicle in a public place,” the officer who arrested Mahomes Sr. said in a report. The reasons for this are listed below.
Despite the arrest, the older Mahomes will still attend the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas because there was no travel ban as part of his bail conditions, according to documents and reports obtained by the newspaper. He says it can be done.

The younger Mahomes kicked off Super Bowl week Monday night by talking about his “dad body” and detailing his pursuit of becoming Tom Brady’s seven-time champion.
The Chiefs are looking to win back-to-back championships and win their second Super Bowl against the 49ers in five years.
