Grizzlies spat one of ‘worst moments’ of my life

Shannon Sharpe still regrets his infamous showdown with the Memphis Grizzlies.

During a January 2023 Lakers-Grizzlies game in Los Angeles, Sharpe got into a shouting match with Ja Morant’s father, Tee, and the two had to be separated by security.

Speaking on this week’s Volume podcast Nightcap, Sharpe revealed that he “blacked out” and called the riot “one of the worst moments” of his life.

“Honestly, when people say they passed out, I believe them,” Sharp told co-host Gilbert Arenas. What’s covered in Awful Annunciation.

“I completely forgot I was in the game. I said, ‘If one person crosses that line, it’s over.’ I hate that I found myself in that situation, but when I say I passed out, I honestly did. The security guard took me back into the hallway and they were talking to me. “Hey uncle, are you okay?” I said as I calmed down. Oh, I messed up. ”

Sharpe continued to take responsibility for escalating the situation, which began with a conversation with former Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks.

Brooks, who signed with the Rockets this offseason, is known for his trash-talking style.

“That’s the reality. I’m wrong,” he said. “I was no good. I was wrong. I apologized to the Grizzlies and Dillon Brooks. Honestly, that was probably one of the worst moments of my life. I should have let it go. is.”

Sharpe, who was co-hosting FS1’s “Undisputed” with Skip Bayless at the time, apologized on air shortly after the incident.

“It doesn’t matter what Dillon Brooks said or how many times he said it. I’m in charge and I have my platform and so many people look up to me, so I I was wrong,” Sharp said last January.

“We should have lowered the temperature in the arena. Instead, we raised the temperature and let it get out of hand.”
