Texas police arrest 5 suspects who allegedly attacked 82-year-old in one of many ‘jugging’ robberies

Police in Texas say they have tracked down five suspects who committed a series of “jugging” robberies, including one in which an 82-year-old man was left bloodied and beaten.

The victim wanted to keep his identity secret, but told KPRC-TV. After going to the bank, she said she was attacked in a Pearland parking lot.

Surveillance video showed the suspect jumping out of the white car and running towards the man, then returning to his car just 10 seconds later.

“I was disoriented,” the victim recalled. “It went so fast that when I turned around, it was already gone.”

The man said he was hit in the back of the neck and the robber stole his wallet containing $400.

Officer Chad Rogers with the Pearland Police Department said it appears crews were involved in numerous “jugging” incidents throughout October and November. The stolen cash totaled approximately $15,000.

“They were monitoring people coming in and out of the bank, looking for people leaving the bank with bags of money or envelopes of cash in their hands,” he explained.

The group used rental cars and temporary tags to evade arrest, but police were able to locate them using license plate reading camera footage. Rogers said all of the victims were over 60 years old.

“Elderly people were targeted, but anyone can be. It’s really just a matter of situational awareness,” he explained.

The suspects were charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and were given bail ranging from $500,000 to $750,000. They are currently being held in the Brazoria County Jail.

The victim said he was glad he had been arrested and advised others to avoid Jag attacks.

“Be very careful. No matter where you park, always look around you,” he said.
