Patrick Mahomes hopes to avoid one-on-one game with Catilin Clark: ‘She’ll for sure be getting buckets on me’

Two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes answered questions from members of the media ahead of Super Bowl III. At one point during the media session, Mahomes was asked about Caitlin Clark, who is vying to become women’s college basketball’s all-time leading scorer.

Mahomes praised Clark’s dominance on the basketball court this season, but also noted that the Chiefs’ star quarterback prefers to avoid one-on-one matches.

“Hopefully I don’t have to play her one-on-one because she’s definitely going to get a bucket on me,” Mahomes said.

Mahomes also called Clark one of the all-time greats in college basketball and predicted he would remain a top player when he reaches the WNBA.

“Great player, great person,” Mahomes said. “I met and talked to her and you can tell she loves the game and she loves playing at Iowa.”

“She’s going to be one of the best college basketball players to ever play, and then go to the WNBA and reign supreme there as well.”

Basketball legends say Angel Reese and Kaitlin Clark face harsh reality when joining WNBA

Clark and No. 2 Iowa had strong seasons. The Hawkeyes improved to 21-2 after defeating Maryland last Saturday.

Las Vegas ace guard Kelsey Plumb currently holds the NCAA women’s scoring record. Clark needs to average 33 points over the next two games to have a shot at the No. 1 spot before Sunday’s Super Bowl. Clark has finished 11 games this season with 33 points or more.

Through 23 games, Clark is averaging a career-high 32.4 points per game.

Clark was named Player of the Year last season, and her stellar performance continued into this season.

Nearly every basketball arena the Hawkeyes have visited this season has been sold out. Fans who were unable to secure tickets before they sold out were forced to turn to the secondary market, where tickets can cost thousands of dollars.
