Missing helicopter with 5 Marines on board prompts search

First responders have launched a search effort after a U.S. military helicopter carrying five U.S. Marines went missing on a flight from Nevada to California on Tuesday.

“The U.S. Marine Corps is searching for five U.S. Marines assigned to Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, 16th Marine Aircraft Group, 3rd Marine Wing,” Marine Corps Air Station Miramar confirmed to Fox News. Ta. “On February 6, 2024, the Marine Corps was flying a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter from Creech Air Force Base to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar when the aircraft was reported as overdue.

“The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing is coordinating search and rescue operations with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and Civil Air Patrol. Updated information will be released as it becomes available,” the statement continued.
