Cowboys running back Tony Pollard clearly hasn’t caught up with the offseason scuttlebutt.
Pollard appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, and his questions were prefaced by the fact that the team’s defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, resigned last week to become the Commanders’ head coach. Ta.
“You know what’s weird? Look, I wasn’t on social media. I quit Instagram mid-season,” Pollard said.
“Did you just realize you lost your defensive coordinator?” he asked.
“I just realized it,” Pollard admitted.
Quinn, 53, was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator for the past three seasons after serving as the Falcons’ head coach.
During his introductory press conference with the manager, Quinn explained why he named former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury as the team’s offensive coordinator.
“Cliff was someone I always followed,” Quinn said.
“Years ago, we were coaching in college and we met for the first time at an awards ceremony and we hit it off then and we competed against each other after that. I certainly followed his career throughout his time. chased [Texas] Technology and competition in Arizona. So I wanted to hire Kyle as well. [Shanahan] Like a few years ago he was hard to resist.
“He’s going to spread the field horizontally and vertically and play against Cliff. Same feeling you were feeling. This is going to be tough. Matchup, formation, speed, going down the field. Shooting, aggressiveness, boldness.” So as a coach, if this is something that happens in your future, you write down some names and say, “If I could make that shot, this is the person I want to talk to.” I was doing it. ”
Kingsbury, who was the offensive coordinator for No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams at the University of Southern California, is part of a plan to make Williams more comfortable with the manager than the Bears, who own the No. 1 overall pick. There is also speculation that this may be the case.
As for the Cowboys, veteran NFL reporter Josina Anderson broke the news early Wednesday that former Jets and Bills head coach Rex Ryan has interviewed for the vacant defensive coordinator position.
