A 3-year-old boy was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Maryland

A 3-year-old boy was shot to death and his young mother critically injured at a Maryland apartment complex, police said.

Prince George’s County Police confirmed to FOX 5 that the incident occurred near the Bedford Station Apartments in Langley Park, Maryland, on Thursday around 5:35 p.m.

Prince George’s County Police Chief Assistant Chief Vernon Hale III said in a news conference that officers were called to the scene after hearing shots fired nearby.

When they arrived, they found the mother and boy both shot.

A shooting in the Langley Park neighborhood of Prince George’s County on Thursday left a toddler dead and a young mother injured. (Fox 5)

Paramedics arrived quickly and took the boy to National Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The mother was taken to a hospital in Washington, D.C., where her condition is stable but with non-life-threatening injuries.

Hale added that the department is using all resources to find those responsible for the crime.

“That baby didn’t do anything to anyone… He didn’t deserve to die. Someone wants to come out here and play with guns,” Hale said. “The bullets fall and there are serious consequences. I just hope they didn’t try to kill the child. The child died and the mother was shot! That baby will become a PG police officer in the future. You won’t be able to live your best life.” ”

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD), officers were on the scene in the 1400 block of Kanawha Street in Langley Park after hearing gunshots around 5:30 p.m. (Fox 5)

The assistant police chief encouraged members of the community to contact police immediately if they know anything about the alleged murder.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and those around this community who had to witness this,” Hale said. “Someone in this community knows who did this. I am asking each of you to contact your friends and family. This is not a matter of snatching, it is a matter of justice for the victims. It’s a problem.”

The department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
