Since 1999, the number of men ages 30 to 49 who identify as liberal has increased by five points, and the number of men ages 65 and older who identify as liberal has increased by six points, according to Gallup.
“The former represents a fundamental difference in the belief systems of women who entered adulthood in the past 10 years and the previous 10 years,” the pollster explained in its findings. “In contrast, the change for senior women may be due to a generational shift, with women who were once middle-aged returning to slightly more liberal attitudes as they move into their golden years.”
“The gender ideological gap has widened over time not because women and men are moving in different ideological directions, but because women are becoming more liberal at a faster pace than men. “This is the cause,” they added.
The Gallup study is based on telephone interviews from a composite survey conducted in 2023 among a sample of 12,145 adults. The margin of error for the complete sample is plus or minus 1 percentage point at a 95 percent confidence level.
