Whistleblowers plan to testify against Fulton County DA Fani Willis to Georgia committee

Georgia’s state legislature on Friday formally launched an investigation into alleged misconduct by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in the election interference case against former President Donald Trump..

Republican state Sen. Bill Cowsert opened a meeting of the state Senate Special Committee on Investigations with the shocking revelation that multiple whistleblowers in the Fulton County Attorney’s Office came forward to testify against their bosses. He said Willis alleges that he misused state and federal funds. The allegations come after the embattled prosecutor admitted to having a relationship with special counsel Nathan Wade that critics called “inappropriate.”

“This is not a political witch hunt. This is a search for truth,” Cowsert said at Friday’s meeting, according to reports. FOX5 Atlanta.

Lawyers for President Trump and several of his co-defendants said Willis should be disqualified from the charge and all charges against them should be dismissed.

In January, Trump’s co-defendant Michael Roman filed a lawsuit alleging that Willis had an “improper” relationship with Wade, whom Willis hired to help prosecute the 2024 Republican front-runner. Documents have been submitted. Roman and his lawyer argue that this relationship poses a conflict of interest and that she is unable to provide financial assistance in the form of lavish vacations that the two take using funds that Roman’s law firm receives for handling the case. He claims he was making a profit.

Ms Willis called the allegations “sneaky” and said they had no “merit”, but acknowledged in a court filing that she and Mr Wade had been “professional colleagues and friends since 2019”.

House Republicans later issued a subpoena for Willis to testify on other charges that he misused federal funds and fired a whistleblower in his office. In response, her office said, “These false allegations are part of a baseless lawsuit filed by retained employees from the previous administration who were fired for cause. We have determined that these claims are without merit, and we look forward to a similar outcome in any pending litigation.” Lawsuit. “

Georgia Republicans are pursuing their own investigation over the objections of Democrats who say Willis’ critics are politically motivated.

“I think a political witch hunt or a show trial would undermine Georgians’ confidence in both our political system and our legal system,” Democratic state Sen. Gloria Butler said, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

But Republicans moved on. “If the public believes that prosecutors are indicting their loved ones to enrich themselves, we will lose public trust and the fairness of the criminal justice system,” Cowsert said.

He indicated that Mr. Willis could be called to testify before the committee. “That’s not a given. I’m definitely going to give her a chance. If I were her, I would want her to be heard,” he said.
