Lucas Glover withdraws from Phoenix Open for bizarre reason

Lucas Glover may have been in contention for the WM Phoenix Open title this weekend, a fan-favorite tournament, but you’ll never know after a huge misread.

Glover was scheduled to play in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, but was forced to withdraw completely after missing his tee time.

He told Golf Channel that he misread the message at tee time. He was scheduled to tee off at 8:26 a.m. local time and was in his hotel room when he received a call from Phoenix Open officials saying he had one minute to tee off.

“I’m kicking myself, but I’m also laughing at myself,” Glover said.

Ryo Hisatsune took part in Glover’s place.

The 44-year-old South Carolina native was supposed to be competing for his seventh PGA Tour victory, but will instead watch the rest of the tournament from his couch.

Glover finished tied for 39th in last year’s competition. He finished at 3 under along with Max Homa and Saheth Segala. Scottie Scheffler won.

But he has major championship experience. He won the 2009 US Open, beating Ricky Burns, David Duvall and Phil Mickelson by two strokes.
