Eli Manning says nephew Arch should not transfer out of Texas: ‘That’s where he wants to play football’

Transferring from Texas might be the easy path for Arch Manning, but his uncle thinks it’s a no-no.

Manning, Peyton and Eli’s nephew and Archie’s grandson, will once again sit behind Quinn Ewers despite being one of the hottest prospects coming out of high school.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian announced earlier this week that the rising junior would start after Ewers opted out of the NFL Draft for another season.

Arch said he’s “not considering moving at all,” and the New York Giants legend said that should continue to be the case.

“He chose Texas because that’s where he wants to be,” Eli said of Arch on CBS Sports Radio. “That’s where he wants to play football. He likes Coach Sarkisian and his offense and what they’re doing.

“Obviously the plan was that Ewers might end up in the NFL,” Eli continued. “But he’s there. It’s another year of growing his arch, learning the offense, getting bigger in the weight room, getting stronger and always being ready to play. You never know what’s going to happen.” ”

“He’s got to be ready. If he’s not, he can get some playing time here and there and get three more years of eligibility at a great school and a great football program that’s growing in popularity. The fact that it’s so easy to transfer now.” Just because you don’t play right away doesn’t mean you should.

“I know he wants to play. He’s itching to get in there. But being patient and continuing to learn will also be very helpful.”

Ewers led Texas to the College Football Playoff, including an incredible comeback against Washington in the semifinals.

“Of course, when you enter that world, college football playoffs, And if you look at the team that beat us, it was a 6th grade senior quarterback [Michael Penix Jr.] “He played at a really high level in that game,” Sarkisian said earlier this week. “I think his experience, his maturity are all going to be a benefit to him.” We’re going to need his leadership. ”

Sarkisian added that Arch “has a very bright future.”

“Obviously, there’s always rumors, especially lately, but I’m not thinking about transferring at all,” Manning said. “I’m focused on growing and helping this team as much as I can, and hopefully one day I’ll be playing at the University of Texas like I’ve always wanted to do.”
