A Georgia man was recently arrested after police say he led a destructive high-speed chase believing he had a warrant out.
Cody Wayne Shoemake, 33, of Cornelia, was charged with felony-level fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. He was also charged with reckless driving.
At 2:40 a.m. Saturday, a sheriff’s deputy noticed Shoemake speeding on Highway 365 in Baldwin with a “non-functioning tag,” police said.

Shoemake allegedly realized he was being followed by law enforcement and reported it.
The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office told FOX 5 the suspect was driving at a speed of 96 mph.
According to reports, Shoemake crashed his Harley-Davidson motorcycle into a ditch during the pursuit, causing it to be destroyed.

When they arrested Shoemake, authorities said he told them he fled because he still owned his ex-girlfriend’s car. The suspect believed law enforcement was looking for him because of that.

Shoemake was treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville before being transferred to the Habersham County Detention Center. He was released on $3,720 bail, according to FOX 5.
