Houthis target commercial ship in Red Sea

The US military said Iran-backed Houthi rebels targeted a commercial cargo ship in the Red Sea on Monday, with its final destination being an Iranian port.

Between 3:30 a.m. and 3:45 a.m., the Houthis launched two missiles from Yemen into the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

According to U.S. Central Command, the terrorists targeted the MV Star Iris, a Greek-owned Marshall Islands-flagged ship sailing from Brazil in the Red Sea.

The ship’s final destination was Bandar Iman Khomeini, Iran, a port city in the Persian Gulf.

“The ship is seaworthy with minor damage and reports that there were no injuries to the crew,” Centcom posted on X.

The Houthis are backed by Iran and have been threatening cargo shipments in and around the Red Sea in recent months in retaliation against Israel over its war with Hamas.
